 The strategic objective of TOUREG Project is to establish a platform for developing a competitive tourism industry based on the generation and application of knowledge revolving around a new international research-driven cluster in the tourism industry.
Based on this strategy, the TOUREG Project’s general objectives are: To adapt and to strengthen the R&D+I public policies, especially policies for or related ones to the tourism sector. Establish an itinerary for the generation and transfer of R&D+I knowledge in the tourism sector. Promote, diversify and specialize in R&D+I activity in the tourism sector. Facilitate the establishment of a platform for the generation of knowledge in the tourism sector. Increase productivity in the tourism sector. Exchange experiences between the participating regions and countries.

Established in January 2008, TOUREG (Competitiveness and Knowledge in the Tourism sector) has the overall aim to improve the competitiveness and strategic position of the service sector and in particular the tourist-oriented sectors in various European regions. This will be achieved through the establishment of a platform for transfer of knowledge based on technological innovation and research in the tourist sector. TOUREG project is coordinated by the Directorate General for Research, Technological Development and Innovation of the Government of the Balearic Islands, and involves 6 regions from Spain, Portugal, Greece, Sweden, Bulgaria and Romania.
TOUREG is financed by the 7th FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME, under the specific Capacities Programme, through the Regions of knowledge initiative (ROK).
