The IBIT Foundation is a technological center which is a public fundation with competitive financial objectives, as established in its Founding Charter approved by the Council of the Balearic Islands Government on 20 February 1998. The main objective of the IBIT Foundation is to carry out activities and studies aimed at developing training, research, promotion, assistance and other actions making possible the implementation and development of the Information and Knowledge Society in the Balearic Islands. Its origins date from 1994, when the Government of the Balearic Islands set up the BIT Institute (Balearic Islands Institute of Technological Innovation) in order to take part in the development of large scale European projects for acquiring knowledge and the use of remote data applications. The projects developed during those years have led to the IBIT Foundation being currently considered a landmark for technological innovation projects and one of the only official technology centers in the Balearic Islands. The IBIT Foundation is governed under statutes by a Board made up of the following bodies: Mission: "The IBIT Foundation's mission is to encourage initiatives facilitating the progress of the Balearic Islands in fields like the Knowledge Society and Technological Innovation". Vision: "The IBIT Foundation's vision is to be considered a landmark in the culture of the Knowledge Society and Technological Innovation on the Balearic Islands".
