AREAM - Agência Regional da Energia e Ambiente da Região Autónoma da Madeira

AREAM is a private non-profit making association, recognised as a public interest body, having as the main purpose to promote the rational use of energy, the valorisation of renewable energy sources and the protection of the environment, namely through the support to local and regional authorities, energy suppliers and end-users, as well as the development of studies and projects in these areas.

The activities of AREAM comprise mainly the following fields:

• Regional planning on energy, environment, tourism and water resources.
• Technical and scientific support to local and regional authorities and key actors on energy and environment matters.
• Promotion of renewable energy resources, energy efficiency and new technologies in the tertiary and residential sectors, outdoor public lighting and urban transports.
• Regulation and implementation of the energy performance certification in buildings (Directive 2002/91/CE).
• Studies and projects concerning monitoring, evaluation and development of renewable energy resources, namely biomass, urban waste, wind, solar, hydro and sea waves.
• Inter-regional cooperation based on European projects and networks.
